Track Name: Me and My Uncle
Me and my uncle went riding down
South Colorado, west Texas bound
We stopped over in Santa Fe
That being the point of about half way
And you know it was the hottest part of the day

I took the horses up to the stall
Went to the barroom those drinks were tall
Six days in the saddle you know my body hurt
It being summer I took off my shirt
And tried to wash off some of that dusty dirt

West Texas cowboys, they all around
With liquor and money they loaded down
So soon after payday you know it seemed a shame
And being my uncle he start playing the game
Hi-lo jacks and the winner take the rein

My uncle start winning, cowboys got sore
One of them called him and then two more
Accused him of cheating, no it could not be
I know my uncle and he’s as honest as me
And I’m as honest as a gambling man can be

Now one of them cowboys, he starts to draw
I shot him down lord he never saw
Shot me another, that woke the law
In the confusion, my uncle grabbed the gold
And we hi-tailed it down to Mexico

Now them cowboys are out of their gold
And my uncle god rest his soul
Taught me good lord, taught me all I know
Taught me so well, I got that gold
And I left him dead out there by the side of the road

Track Name: Ooh Las Vegas
Ooh, Las Vegas ain't no place for a poor boy like me
Ooh, Las Vegas ain't no place for a poor boy like me
Every time I hit your crystal city you know
You're gonna make a wreck outta me

Well, the first time I lose I drink whiskey
Second time I lose I drink gin
Third time I lose I drink anything
'cause I think I'm gonna win

Well, the Queen of Spades is a friend of mine
The Queen of Hearts is a bitch
Someday when I clean up my mind
I'll find out which is a which

Well, I spend all night with the dealer
Tryin' to get ahead
Spend all day att the Holiday Inn
Tryin' to get out of bed

Ooh, Las Vegas ain't no place for a poor boy like me
Ooh, Las Vegas ain't no place for a poor boy like me
Every time I hit your crystal city you know
You're gonna make a wreck outta me

Track Name: Willin'
Warped by the rain driven by the snow
Drunk and dirty, don’t you know
And I’m still, willing
Out on the road late last night
Seen my pretty Alice in every headlight
Alice

And I’ve been from Tucson to Tucumcari
Tehachapi to Tonopah
Driven every kind of rig that’s ever been made yeah
Driven the back roads so I wouldn’t get weighed
And if you give me, weed whites and wine
And show me a sign
I’ll be willing to be moving

Kicked by the wind, robbed by the sleet
Had my head stove in but I’m still on my feet
And I’m still, willing
Smuggled some smokes and folks down to Mexico
Baked by the sun every time I go down to Mexico

And I’ve been from Tucson to Tucumcari
Tehachapi to Tonopah
Driven every kind of rig that’s ever been made yeah
Driven the back roads so I wouldn’t get weighed
And if you give me, weed whites and wine
And show me a sign
I’ll be willing to be moving

Track Name: Cash On The Barrellhead
Got in a little trouble down at the county seat
Thrown to cook in the jail house for loitering on the street
When the judge heard the verdict I was a guilty man
He said forty-five dollars or forty days in the can

Said, that'll be cash on the barrelhead, son
You can take your choice you're twenty-one
No money down, no credit plan
No time to chase you 'cause I'm a busy man

Forty days in the jailhouse, four days on the road
I was feeling mighty hungry I feel a heavy load
Saw a greyhound coming stuck up my thumb
Before I got to my seat, the driver caught my arm

Said that'll be cash on the barrelhead son
This old grey dog gets paid to run
When the engine starts, lawd, and the wheels all roll
Give me cash on the barrelhead I'll take you down the road

Track Name: I Can't Dance
I can't dance I never could
I guess my feet don't match
I'd get out there on the floor
but I'm afraid of hurtin' my back
I can't dance I guess I'm just one of the unfortunate few
So just for a little bit, Baby
I'll come out and dance with you

I can't dance and I'm feelin' so good,
yeah Some of us can, some of us can't
Some of us wish that they could
I can't dance I guess I'm just one of the unfortunate few
So just for a little bit, Baby
I'll come out and dance with you
Track Name: Brass Buttons
Brass buttons, green silks and silver shoes
Warm evenings, pale mornings, bottle of blues
And the tiny golden pins that she wore up in her hair
Brass buttons, green silks and silver shoes

My mind was young until she grew
My secret thoughts known only to a few
It was a dream much too real to be leaning on too long
Oh and all the time she knew

Her words still dance inside my head
Her comb still lies beside my bed
But the sun comes up without her; it just doesn’t know she’s gone
And I remember everything she said

Brass buttons, green silks and silver shoes
Warm evenings, pale mornings, bottle of blues
And the tiny golden pins that she wore up in her hair
Brass buttons, green silks and silver shoes

Track Name: Boxcar Blues
Well there’s a big old Buick at the Baptist church
A Cadillac at the church of Christ
I parked my camel in the old haystack
I been searching for that needle all night
There ain’t going to be no radial tires
Turning on the streets of gold
So I’m going down to the railroad track
Watch those lonesome boxcars roll

If you ever heard the whistle of an old freight train
Beating out a beautiful tune
If you ever seen the silver of the railroad tracks
Shining in the light of the moon
If you ever felt the locomotive shake the ground
I know you won’t need to be told
Why I’m going down to the railroad track
Watch those lonesome boxcars roll

Track Name: Hickory Wind
In South Carolina there are many tall pines
I remember the oak tree that we used to climb
But it makes me feel better each time it begins
Calling me home Hickory Wind

I started out younger had most everything
All the riches and pleasures what else could life bring
But now when I'm lonesome I always pretend
That I'm getting the feel of Hickory Wind

It's a hard way to find out that trouble is real
In a far away city with a far away feel
But it makes me feel better each time it begins
Calling me home Hickory Wind
Keeps calling me home Hickory Wind

words and music by Parsons/Buchanan
Track Name: Six Days On The Road
Well I pulled out of Pittsburgh rolling down the eastern seaboard
I've got my diesel wound up and she's running like a never before
There's a speed zone ahead but alright, I don't see a cop insight
Six days on the road and I'm a gonna make it home tonight

I got ten forward gears and a Georgia overdrive
I'm passing little white lines and my eyes are open wide
Just passed a Jimmy and a White, I've passing everything in sight
Six days on the road the road and I'm a gonna make it home tonight

Well it seems like a month since I kissed my baby goodbye
I could have a lot women but I'm not like some other guys
I could find one hold me tight, but I could never make believe It's alright
Six days on the road and I'm a gonna make it home tonight

Well the ICC is a checking on down the line
I'm a little over weight and my log books are way behind
But nothing bothers me tonight, I can dodge all the scales alright
Six days on the road and I'm a gonna make it home tonight

My rigs a little old but that don't mean she's slow
There's a flame from her stack and the smoke is rolling black as cool
My home town's coming in sight, if you think I'm happy you're right
Six days on the road and I'm a gonna make it home tonight

Track Name: Promised Land
Left my home in Norfolk Virginia,
California on my mind
Straddled that Greyhound, roaring into Raleigh
All across Caroline
Stopped in Charlotte, bypassed Rockhill,
Never was a minute late
We were ninety miles out of Atlanta by sundown
Rolling out of Georgia State
Then we had a little trouble,
it turned into a struggle
Half way cross Alabam
The hound broke down and left us stranded
In downtown Birmingham

Right away I bought me a thru train ticket,
Riding cross Mississippi clean
I was on that midnight flyer out of Birmingham
Smoking into New Orleans
Somebody help me to get out of Louisiana,
Help me get to Houston town
There are some people there who care a bit about me
And they won’t let the poor boy down
Sure as your born they bought me a silk suit,
Put luggage in my hand
And I woke up high over Albuquerque
On a jet to the Promised Land

Working on a t-bone steak a la carte,
Flying o’er the golden state
The pilot told us that in thirteen minutes
He would set us at the terminal gate
Swing low chariot come down easy,
Taxi to the terminal zone
Cut your engines and cool your wings
Let me make it to the telephone
Los Angeles give me Norfolk Virginia,
Tidewater four ten oh nine
Tell the folks at home the poor boys calling
The Promised Land’s on the line
