Do What? 03:04
Do What words and music by john greene Do what you wanna do Say what you wanna say, See what you wanna see When it comes your way Keep your eyes wide open And your senses too Or when it hits the fan It’ll hit you too Be where you wanna be Go where you wanna go Leave when you wanna leave You know you’ll always know Keep your friends close to you Give what you have to give Don’t be afraid to die Or you’ll forget to live It looks like a bad world out there With danger at every turn But don’t you run around scared There’s so much you can learn Be who you wanna be Live how you wanna live Love who you wanna love Be ready to forgive Keep your eyes wide open And your senses too Or when it hits the fan It’ll hit you too It looks like a bad world out there With danger at every turn But don’t you run around scared There’s so much you can learn © joncomusic 2014

Dream About Me Too words and music by john greene Lindy Lou the Texas floozy Tried to teach me all she knew And I wondered Did she dream about me too There was nothing but fire down that road And I was drawn like a moth to a flame But I'm wondering Does she dream about me too Sometimes I'm believing That the eyes that you make are for me Sometimes I feel like the man I was Sometimes I feel like a heel Falling out of love again One step away from the blues And I wonder Do you dream about me too Dontcha ever wonder What it's like to break the rules My way is the hiway The thrill of chasing a fool I left her where I found her Lying in another mans arms And I wonder Does he dream about you too © joncomusic 2014

Moving Day 03:01
Moving Day words and music by john greene Well above the timberline Snowline coming up fast But we will always be together The future is the same as the past Moving day Is not the time for goodbyes Some days I feel like a hero Others a pointless old clown Chasing the clouds over sunsets Or seeing my dreams crashing down Moving day Is not the time for goodbyes Six months of sobriety Watching the world thru clear eyes Seeing my reflection as others may see it For the first time in an age Moving day Is not the time for goodbyes Well above the timberline Snowline coming up fast But we will always be together The future is the same as the past Moving day Is not the time for goodbyes © joncomusic 2014

Next Time Round words and music by john greene Life's like a stopover in some crummy town In the end you're just waiting for your flight I got no mother, I got no wife Been carrying a suitcase most every night Time is moving so fast now Almost feel the turning of the tide The shadows march across the face What have I done with my time For too many nights and too many days All I did was grow my hair Next time round gonna hurt people less Maybe have some success Next time round Sometimes the memories crowd in on me So many days filled with a childs love When we were struggling to survive To keep a roof above I've been a rebel and I've been alone I wish I could have changed the world I had my day, down in L.A. I did all that I could For too many nights and too many days All I did was grow my hair Next time round gonna hurt people less Maybe have some success Next time round © joncomusic 2014

Letting Go 04:00
Letting Go words and music by john greene Been putting my life back together Now that you’ve found you’re way home And you’ve got someone to talk to When you don’t want to be all alone One side of the story Says apologies are still due But how can anybody say sorry When they don’t understand what they do Now that you’re here it’s like springtime Goodbye to cold winter rain The broken mirror is mended The pieces put together again Doing nothing was the hardest part Then something changed it was plain to see Now any room that has you in it Is a much better place to be But now’s the time to draw a line Under the things that were Too many bridges and too much time Too much damage done to her So I’m letting go of all the hurt Letting go of who’s to blame I’m letting go of right or wrong I'm letting go, of yesterday Been putting my life back together Now that you’ve found you’re way home And you’ve got someone to talk to When you don’t want to be all alone © joncomusic 2014

Hard Road 03:39
It's A Hard Road words and music by john greene Every time I turn around Another good man gone Another one waiting You know it won’t be long And I don’t know Where we’re gonna go And I don’t know If it’s high or low But it’s a hard road It’s a hard road that we’re on Yeah it’s a long, hard road It’s got me this far, it can’t be wrong No, it can’t be wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong Sometimes the good go young Sometimes they won’t Sometimes the going goes easy Sometimes it don’t And I don’t know Where we’re gonna go And I don’t know If it’s high or low But it’s a hard road It’s a hard road that we’re on Yeah it’s a long, hard road It's got me this far, it can’t be wrong No, it can’t be wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong © joncomusic 2014

Separate Rooms words and music by john greene If you stand by what you think and say You should stand by what you do It's not the things you leave behind It's what you take with you The trouble with burning bridges is It's so hard to get home Separate rooms then separate lives The changes come so soon Hell is what you find down here Heaven is how you grew When the demons disappear The angels fly off too The trouble with burning bridges is It's so hard to get home Separate rooms then separate lives The changes come so soon I won't be here forever Maybe you'll miss me when I'm gone How many more times will we have together Before I'm travelling on If you stand by what you think and say You should stand by what you do When the demons disappear The angels fly off too The trouble with burning bridges is It's so hard to get home Separate rooms then separate lives The changes come so soon If you stand by what you think and say You should stand by what you do When the demons disappear The angels fly off too © joncomusic 2014

Ask Yourself Why words and music by john greene When will we learn, The answer’s always inside yourself. Your money to burn, Won’t make you somebody else There are no free rides, I learned that all by myself. See the truth past the lies, Only you have the magic spell Ask yourself why, Don’t just follow anothers parade, That’s the point of this whole charade, To ask yourself why Nobody knows, The secret of the great mystery. There’s nothing to show No door or no pathway home Ask yourself why, Don’t just follow anothers parade, That’s the point of this whole charade, To ask yourself why Ask yourself why, Don’t rely on the charlatans, To make you a better man Just ask yourself why © joncomusic 2014

Someday Soon 03:23
Someday Soon words and music by john greene It takes a while to understand That it's over in the blink of an eye This is the way we come And the way we go Can this be all there is I don't believe it's so But someday soon I'll know Do the best you can Deal with what that brings When you cross the great divide You'll do it on your own The big change is going to come Will I disappear or grow Someday soon I'll know Don't you grieve when I leave If it's yourself you're crying for Mother, lover, brother, friend Soon going to meet again Can this be all there is I don't believe it's so But someday soon I'll know © joncomusic 2014

To the Desert words and music by john greene There's a restless freedom Flows from the mountains Down thru the valleys Towards the sea It carries with it A sense of purpose and belonging But not for me I want to go back To the desert To see that endless sky But I sit here dreaming An ocean distant And sometimes I ache for you © joncomusic 2014

about

My previous album, 'West of the Rest', had been written about travelling and was inspired by the travelling I was doing.
At about the time it was released I ran out of money and so started to spend more time in my own head, as it were.

The songs included here are the results of this and also, possibly, my reaching 65 years, a landmark I never thought I'd see!

The first tracks were laid down in early 2013 and, with the invaluable assistance of my co-producer, Ben Morgan, we hit upon the 'sound' I had always wanted.
So successfully did we do this that I decided to re-record all my previous work!!!
This took about 9 months and what with re-releasing, upgrading artwork and such, it was not until early 2014 that 'Hard Country' was completed.

The songs are about my experiences of life and my expectations of death. I hope there is no morbidity or doom and gloom in them because that is not what’s happening, in fact I can truly say that I have never been happier :)
As usual, massive thanks to all that contributed, without whom etc. etc.

about

John Greene Music Falmouth, UK

John Greene's music is a reflection of his turbulent, non-conformist life and is based on early rock and roll, the pop explosion of the 60’s, the blues and many things Americana.
Best described as ‘Hard Country’, it lives in the space also occupied by the likes of Neil Young and the Grateful Dead. It always involves his unique viewpoint on the world he has lived in and the troubles we all share.
