Love Fades Away
words and music by
john greene
Now we’re not even lovers,
I can’t be angry anymore
Not gonna hide under the covers
Or sit behind no bolted door
If you find you hate to argue
But you also hate to lose
There’s only one thing that you can do,
Bite the bullet and refuse
Cos love fades away
A little every day
Black turns to grey
And night becomes day
I know you used to love me,
It was written on your back
But as making love is easy,
Breaking up can make you crack
But love fades away
A little every day
Black turns to grey
And work becomes play, believe me

One Last Time
words and music by
john greene
Little people living pointless lives
Are preconditioned to love,
Any distant god any royal we,
Any star from above
But you’re no better than I am,
I’m no different to you
All you do is stand and wave
As the party goes through
One last time
And what do they deserve,
For the things that are done in their name
As the curtains close on their dinosaur world,
Do they feel any shame
New rules for a new world,
The end of an era awaits
For they also serve who do much more
Than only stand and wave
One last time

Time To Remember
words and music by
john greene
In every life there’s a time to remember
A time to let the past go by
A time to rip like the end of December
A time to live while you wait to die
If everyone we ever hurt got better
If everyone we ever lost got found
If everything we ever broke got mended
If every train was homeward bound
Took so long proving, things to be true
That from the beginning, I already knew
There are times when I know what I’m doing
And then there are times when I truly don’t
Sometimes I know the answer
Before I know the question
Sometimes I try and then I won’t
In every life there’s a time to remember
A time to let the past go by
A time to rip like the end of December
A time to live while youwait to die

Winter
words and music by
john greene
Today is the last day of summer
Come on sun come and get me
One last time
Tomorrow I’ll take my boots out
Walking in the rain
To an empty table in an empty bar room
To look for a better time coming
Is a good way to be
When surviving is something to do
If there’s no place left to run to,
Then you can be free
But part of me is always waiting for you
Frost in the early, early morning
Diesel fumes hang in the air
Smoke rising straight into a starlit sky
Steamy windows, log fire bright
To look for a better time coming
Is a good way to be
When surviving is something to do
If there’s no place left to run to,
Then you can be free
But part of me is always waiting for you
Yes part of me is always waiting

A Life Like Mine
words and music by
john greene
Hello mother I safely arrived,
At the halfway mark
Halfway to paradise or halfway to hell,
Halfway to life in the dark
Poet or parrot, hero or thief,
I’m trying to make up my mind
Whether a twentieth century boy,
Can leave the memories behind
Spent half my time traveling,
Never to arrive
Spent the other half wondering,
Never to decide
The game gets easier as you grow old,
But no-one wants youto play
You end up on the sidelines sitting,
Wishing your life away
My phonographic memory lives on charity bizarre
And my manic panic never gets me very far
But 1 wouldn’t change anything,
Though I didn’t always shine
No I wouldn’t change any part of a life like mine
I’m proud of the things that I’ve learnt
And most of the things that I’ve done
Knowing a man who knew Cassidy
Meeting Mandela’s son
My phonographic memory lives on charity bizarre
And my manic panic never gets me very far
But 1 wouldn’t change anything,
Though I didn’t always shine
No I wouldn’t change any part of a life like mine

Plymouth Road
words and music by
john greene
Driving down a road,
I saw signs to my past
A weight of memories tumbled down
I felt just like a bird,
That can never land
Full of hidden shallowness
If I become the person
I said I’d never be
There’ll be nothing left that’s right,
In this life for me
On the Plymouth road
Driving down a road,
I saw signs to my past
A weight of memories tumbled down
I’m not trying to wave,
I’m not trying to drown
I’m just trying to come around
If I become the person
I said I’d never be
There’ll be nothing left that’s right,
In this life for me
On the Plymouth road

I Ran Away

I Ran Away
words and music by
john greene
I ran around the world,
Leaving the past behind
I didn’t carry much I’d never need
Only the ties that bind
Kept burning all my bridges,
Though nothing burns for long
A little love a little tenderness
Another reason to move on
Maybe I’d stopped caring
Maybe I was only bored
As if the act of leaving
Was its own reward
I couldn’t stay, another day, I ran away
I never wanted the American dream,
Just didn’t care to play
I disappeared into the setting sun
I threw a ball away
I ran away from lovers,
I ran away from Spain
I ran away from the fear of failing
Then ran right back again
Maybe I’d stopped caring
Maybe I was only bored
As if the act of leaving
Was its own reward
I couldn’t stay, another day, I ran away

Don't Be Afraid

Don't Be Afraid
words and music by
john greene
Every day the rain falls,
every day the wind blows
But a change in the weather,
means nothing at all
Don’t be afraid of crying,
it’s not as black as it seems
Don’t be afraid, No, Don’t be afraid
Next time I’ll remember,
this days mistakes
No nothing comes free here,
except the heartaches
Don’t be afraid of laughing,
its only swimming downstream
Don’t be afraid, No, Don’t be afraid
Life's too short to waste your time
Worrying about what might be
Tomorrow will be a better day
If you face it fearlessly
As riders change horses,
like a snake sheds its skin
As one chapters ending another begins
Don’t be afraid of dying,
it’s only a dream
Don’t be afraid, No, Don’t be afraid

A Perfect Life

A PERFECT LIFE
I can’t tell you, what’s right or wrong
Can only tell you that you’ve got to be strong
Relationships with other souls
Are less important than the one with yourself
If you pretend, that there’s a cop
Round every corner you will never stop
A perfect life will live itself
The greener grass always beckons you back home
A perfect life, you will find, will always live itself
A perfect life will live itself, if you give it time
I can’t tell you, what’s right or wrong
Can only tell you that you’ve got to be strong
Relationships with other souls
Are less important than the one with yourself
If you pretend, that there’s a cop
Round every corner you will never stop
A perfect life will live itself
The greener grass always beckons you back home

Morning Will Come
words and music by
john greene
Welcome to earth
On a kindergarten trip
Here we are all just passengers,
Trying to sink the ship
Civilization and progress
Seem never identical things
The world will become what it becomes
Over and over again
Crimes against the planet
Remember John and Janet
Give me something to believe in,
Forget the Alamo
Take me to Sunnydale,
And morning will come
Yeah morning will come
Crimes against the planet
Remember John and Janet

Small Town Boys
words and music by
john greene
Local yokels, tiny minds,
Dragging me out of my dreams
Mr and Mrs Beefcake Cowboy
Out for a Saturday night
Plastic toys for little boys
Three squares and somewhere to sleep
Some jazz groceries
And some late night dipping
But don’t you dare to dive too deep
Small town bores
You haven’t learned a thing
Thank god my competitive streak
Is wider than yours
You small town boys
You’re prisoners in paradise
You can’t even see the cage for the bars
You’re prisoners in paradise

Is That Too Much To Ask
words and music by
john greene
Too many people, and too much noise
Entertainment, for the girls and boys
Look at me, I’m on tv
Got my phone, cant you see me
One by one, the vandals get
A little closer, to the gates
Stay on your side, of the fence
Keep off my side, if you've got any sense
Don’t sue me, and I wont sue you,
Don’t shoot me, and I wont shoot you,
Is that too much to ask
Please don’t throw, your garbage at me
And I wont throw, my garbage at you
Don’t sue me, and I wont sue you,
Don’t shoot me, and I wont shoot you,
Be on my side and I'll be on yours,
Stand together, for the cause,
Don’t sue me, and I wont sue you,
Don’t shoot me, and I wont shoot you,
Is that too much to ask ?

those days will come again
words and music by
john greene
a man came on the tv and told me that he knew
about how the Cubans felt in 1962
if you preach of the glory of war you should have lived in fear
of a man with a button saying ‘god bless all here’
we showed our elders how to live in the peace that they had struggled for
and were rewarded with ridicule for the clothes we wore
the worlds forgetting all the battles we fought, all the things we did
what we taught our parents then, now we must teach our kids
how I miss those moptop days, when it seemed so black and white
to stand up for your principles, to fight for what was right
those days will come again

John Greene Music Falmouth, UK
John Greene's music is a reflection of his turbulent, non-conformist life and is based on early rock and roll, the pop
explosion of the 60’s, the blues and many things Americana.
Best described as ‘Hard Country’, it lives in the space also occupied by the likes of Neil Young and the Grateful Dead. It always involves his unique viewpoint on the world he has lived in and the troubles we all share.
