Blue Sky Morning
words and music by
john greene
When I left home in 72,
California was the place to be
I had a head full of dreams
and a bag full of schemes
No time for reality
4 years of a hand to nose existence,
Living life through a pair of shades
The fog finally lifted my priorities shifted
And I ceased to be unafraid
Now its another blue sky morning
Gonna be another blue sky day
But from Mojave to the Monterey shore
Can’t seem to find what I’m searching for
any more
Thought I left something behind
Couldn’t get it out of my mind
I tried to make the tape rewind
Now I know there’s nothing to find
Its long, long, long, long gone
Now my futures not what it used to be
Second time around’s not the same
This collision with the past
may turn out to be the last time
I play nostalgia games
Now its another blue sky morning
Gonna be another blue sky day
But from Mojave to the Monterey shore
Can’t seem to find what I’m searching for
any more

Nevada Thru A Rearview
words and music by
john greene
All has promise in the morning
As I check out just before dawn
Got that motel leaving feeling
Another picture never drawn
Beverly Hills Nevada
Population 419
Would it be paradise to stay here
Or just like everywhere I’ve been
I love to drive the lonesome highways
Looking for a magic place
Nevada through a rearview mirror
Living from a suitcase
A room with a view can never hold me
The same scene soon grows old
Can’t find a place I don’t grow tired of
That doesn’t start to eat at my soul
I love to drive the lonesome highways
Looking for a magic place
Nevada through a rearview mirror
Living from a suitcase

Louisiana Bound
words and music by
john greene
Officer Johnson, he flagged me down
As I tore across Crockett County
He said you’re a long way from home here John
And that’s gonna cost you $150
Ozona Courthouse at the break of day
I’ve been on I-10 far too long
You don’t get much for your dollar here
When the Sheriff says you done wrong
Its 900 miles across Texas
From El Paso to the swampy Sabine
Day after day on the freeway
Where the 18 wheelers whine
In a country as big as an ocean
Driving’s like flying on the ground
I’m tearing through the butterfly rain
Louisiana Bound
The night clerk was a god fearing man
He was headed for the drive thru church
He said see the pioneers
with the arrows in their backs
Even Texans aren’t as tall as they were
Its 900 miles across Texas
From El Paso to the swampy Sabine
Day after day on the freeway
Where the 18 wheelers whine
In a country as big as an ocean
Driving’s like flying on the ground
I’m tearing through the butterfly rain
Louisiana Bound

Some People
words and music by
john greene
Some people
got an awful lot to learn
Some people
gonna crash before they burn
Its ok for you to drift
You know the walk is part of the gift
Some people
got an awful lot to learn
Stand up
the time to kneel is through
Stand up
the stories were untrue
Saddest sight I ever saw
A butler played by Kenneth More
Stand up
the time to kneel is through
Too much media
not enough message
Too much
putting points upon the page
What ain’t white ain’t always black
What ain’t cheap ain’t always what you lack
Too much media
not enough message
Some people
got an awful lot to learn
Some people
gonna crash before they burn
Its ok for you to drift
You know the walk is part of the gift
Some people
got an awful lot to learn

Scene of the Crime
words and music by
john greene
We all wear the medals
from our old campaigns
All survivors have their stories of the war
But there’s no place now for cartoon violence
For power or the glory of god
They still play ‘Sweet Home Alabama’
In the shadow of the old oak tree
Where the bodies used to swing
in the moonlight
Freed now from slavery
There’s nothing more savage
than the white man
That feels like he’s running out of time
Remember if you can while you’re dancing
The south was the scene of our crime
Its not what you’re dealt its how you deal
You know you gotta play out your hand
Freedom’s got to be fought for
Are you marching or just playing in the band
They still play ‘Sweet Home Alabama’
In the shadow of the old oak tree
Where the bodies used to swing
in the moonlight
Freed now from slavery
There’s nothing more savage
than the white man
That feels like he’s running out of time
Remember if you can while you’re dancing
The south was the scene of our crime

Whatever Happened to Love
words and music by
john greene
For me heaven is a motel room
Where I can lie till I resume
My journey thru the
Empty highways of my past
A shower and a bed, a baseball game
My needs are simple and the same
Then I know for certain
That i'm really home at last
Whatever happened to love
Why are there no stars up above
I finally got to Tonopah
Arriving with the evening star
But no tears for me now
Just because my dancing days are thru
Whatever happened to love
Why are there no stars up above

So Far So Good

So Far So Good
words and music by
john greene
Rock and roll was my frontier
My undiscovered country
Add a little love and the right tablets
To a grey fifties escapee
No more running no more hiding
The time for that was through
I took my light and turned it
to a lifetime of adventure
Bending every rule
That was a dangerous age
Now this is all I can do
I might be living for ever
So far so good
The night is young but I am not
My expectations are low
One place is just the same as another
But till you get there you never know
But it was only for a moment
It’s all over now
No new beginnings and no happy endings
No causes worth the vow
That was a dangerous age
Now this is all I can do
I might be living for ever
So far so good

John Greene Music Falmouth, UK
John Greene's music is a reflection of his turbulent, non-conformist life and is based on early rock and roll, the pop
explosion of the 60’s, the blues and many things Americana.
Best described as ‘Hard Country’, it lives in the space also occupied by the likes of Neil Young and the Grateful Dead. It always involves his unique viewpoint on the world he has lived in and the troubles we all share.
